KP PRIZE 2014

The KP Prize went to one of the quiet artists on KP14.
The Award jury, this year represented by rector of The Jutland Art Academy, artist Jesper Rasmussen, chairwoman of the KP Board, Anne Katrine Graah Rasmussen and director of ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, Jens Erik Sørensen, all agreed to give the travelling scholarship to one of the artistically quiet artists at KP – an artist who - by means of an abstract imagery - seeks to explore the basic artistic opportunities as to space, lines, shapes, colours and light.

The presentation of the receiver of this year´s KP Prize took place during the very well-visited opening of KP14 & SPRING14 in Kunsthal Aarhus on Saturday the 12th of April.
Katrine Hvid received the prize and 10,000 DKK for a number of toned down and perfected abstract works. These works form the basis for an encouragement of an absorption in a universe characterized by an extremely sophisticated richness in colours as well as a balanced play in the refraction between surfaces of varying degrees of mat and shine.

The perhaps most striking art piece ”Ai-iro x-rays”, consists of a number of paintings on paper coloured only with indigo blue. The blue colour was chosen because it is the colour which has the best opportunity of fading between light and darkness.
The art piece is an "expanded painting", as the individual paintings have been arranged on a table and illuminated with a neon light, at the same time to control the lighting as to define the situation of observation.

Katrine Hvid has worked with visual arts for a number of years. She was originally schooled in a musical world where she has performed as a singer. In addition, she has a cand. phil. in Musicology.

Here is the full speech of Jens Erik Sørensen at the presentation of the KP Prize 2014.

Dear artists and friends of art
On behalf of Aarhuus Stiftstidende´s Foundation it gives me great pleasure to award their travelling scholarship to one of the participating artists at KP14.
The travelling scholarship is not huge - it is 10,000 DKK – but I can ensure you that it has been quite a challenge for the small art jury to choose among the many exciting artists exhibiting this year. This year´s exhibition is bursting with talent within many different media and styles.
The Award jury, this year represented by rector of The Jutland Art Academy, artist Jesper Rasmussen, chairwoman of the KP Board, Anne Katrine Graah Rasmussen and I, has agreed to award the travelling scholarship to one of the artistically quiet artists at KP; an artist who with an abstract imagery seeks to explore the basic artistic opportunities regarding space, lines, shapes, colours and light. With engagement and an ability to get lost in her process, she seeks to extort new impressions and new shapes, using both the wall and the floor. Her art might seem slightly shy and reserved in a time and a world, where we have turned up the volume in every visual effect around us. Maybe this is the reason why the Award jury has chosen an artist with a soft and perfected expression. The jury has unanimously decided to award the travelling scholarship 2014 of Aarhuus Stiftstidende´s Foundation to:  ...... Katrine Hvid.

Congratulations! We wish you a good journey!
